San Xavier Mission, Tucson, "The White Dove of the Desert"
It is a gorgeous oasis in the middle of the Southwest desert and provides the visitor with a chance to step back into the rich history of the Southwest. The Mission San Xavier del Bac is located nine miles south of Tucson, Arizona and was established by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. It is the oldest in tact European structure in Arizona. Construction on the current structure began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. This marvelous structure has no admission charge but donations help continue the work on the restoration work on the Mission which was begun by the Patronanto San Xavier in 1978. The San Xavier Mission is a National Historic Monument. The White Dove of the Desert is a must see for anyone visiting in Southern Arizona.
